Chawa View Deck and Mahatao Shelter Port

The tour opens on the cliffs at Chawa View Deck, looking out over the West Philippine Sea, with a staircase running down toward the coastline for anyone who wants a closer look at the rock formations.

Next is the Mahatao boat shelter port — a stone harbour built as a refuge for fishermen against the winds that gave the province its nickname. It is a working piece of Ivatan maritime engineering rather than a monument, and the stone-boat architecture around it is the point of the stop.

San Carlos Borromeo Church

A declared National Cultural Treasure in Mahatao, built in the classic Ivatan stone style. The grounds hold a centuries-old Spanish-era registry book, and the church itself is the best surviving example of the architecture the islands are known for: metre-thick lime-and-stone walls designed to stand through typhoons that flatten everything lighter.

This is the first of the three religious sites on the route, and the reason the listing bans sleeveless shirts.

Homoron Blue Lagoon and White Beach

The Homoron Blue Lagoon is a serene natural pool bordered by rock formations, with turquoise water that reads as unreal in photographs and is genuinely that colour on a settled day. White Beach follows: powdery white sand against clear blue water and more rock formations.

Both are stops for looking rather than long swims — this is an eight-hour route with eleven stops on it, and the schedule does not allow much lingering.

Racuh a Payaman, Marlboro Country

The stop that sells Batanes. Racuh a Payaman is communal pastureland that rolls to a cliff edge above the Pacific, with cattle and carabao grazing loose across it and the sea a long way down. Every South Batan itinerary compared on this site includes it.

It is exposed and the wind is constant. A hat without a chin strap will not survive the walk out to the edge — reviewers of the Batanes packages say so repeatedly.

Alapad Rock Formation and San Lorenzo Ruiz Chapel

The Alapad Rock Formation is where the coastal road cuts between wind-shaped slabs, marked by the old "Blow Ur Horn" sign and backed by sweeping views of rugged cliffs. It is one of the most photographed stretches of road in the country.

San Lorenzo Ruiz Chapel follows: a small chapel set against a coastal backdrop, and the second of the route's religious stops.

The Honesty Coffee Shop, House of Dakay and the Spanish bridge

The Honesty Coffee Shop in Ivana is an unstaffed store where goods are sold on trust — you take what you want and leave the money in a box. It has been running that way for decades and is the stop people remember longest.

The House of Dakay is one of the oldest surviving Ivatan stone houses, built in the 1880s and still standing through every typhoon since. The tour finishes at the Old Spanish Bridge, a stone bridge from the colonial period still carrying the road.

Those three are the difference between this listing and the cheaper South Batan tour, which does not name any of them.

Lunch, which is not

The inclusions list on this tour names the guide-driver, the vehicle and the entrance fees. It does not name lunch. On an eight-hour route down the South Batan coast that is worth planning for: there is very little on the road where you can improvise a meal, and the stops are spaced for driving rather than eating.

The Gladex South Batan tour at $115 includes an Ivatan lunch and costs $24 less. If a guaranteed meal matters more than a guaranteed stop list, that is the booking. Ask this operator at booking whether a lunch stop can be added — most Batanes operators arrange one.

The fees outside every tour price

The Ivana LEAH fee is PHP 100 per person, in force since January 2026, paid on site in cash, with a discount for senior citizens and PWDs holding valid IDs. Stop nine on this route is in Ivana, so it applies.

The provincial visitor registration is PHP 405 per person — PHP 200 ecotourism fee plus PHP 205 visitor ID fee — under Executive Order No. 23, Series of 2026, compulsory since 15 June 2026 and paid online at bookings.breathtakingbatanes.com before you travel. Neither charge is inside any tour price compared on this site.

Dress code, and why it is enforced

Sleeveless shirts are not allowed on this tour, along with smoking, alcohol and littering, and the listing asks for respectful attire because the route visits cultural and historical sites. Three of the eleven stops are churches or chapels, and two more are living villages.

Comfortable shoes are the other recommendation on the listing — several stops involve short walks over uneven stone.

Bring cash for stop nine

Basco has two banks, Landbank and PNB, and no money-changing facilities anywhere in the province; many places are cash only, which is why both Klook listings tell travellers to carry emergency cash.

On this route it matters at the Honesty Coffee Shop, which is unusable without notes and coins, and at the Ivana LEAH collection point. Neither takes a card.

The comparison

This listing publishes eleven stops in order, states an eight-hour duration and includes hotel pickup and all entrance fees, but not lunch. The Gladex tour at $115 includes an Ivatan lunch and is sold as a private group, but names only five stops and does not list hotel pickup.

Neither has reviews. Both use an air-conditioned car or van with a local guide-driver.

Book this one for the route

If you want the Honesty Coffee Shop, the House of Dakay and the Spanish bridge specifically — the cultural stops rather than the viewpoints — this is the listing that commits to them in writing. A published running order is a real thing to buy when the alternative names five highlights and leaves the rest open.

It is also the better fit if you are already covering meals another way, or if you would rather eat in Basco afterwards than at a scheduled stop.

And the case for neither

If South Batan is not the only route you are doing, the 3-day package at $96.79 covers this coast plus North Batan plus Sabtang, with lunch on all three days and the boat included. That is less than this single day costs.

Single-day tours earn their place when you have one free day, your own transport for the rest of the trip, or a specific route you want done properly. On this coast, done properly is what this listing sells.
